Point value is what a full 1.00 move in the price is worth. On crude oil that's a $1 move per barrel, on gold $1 per ounce.

How tick value works

tick value = tick size × point value
P&L = ticks moved × tick value × contracts − fees

Example: you buy 2 MNQ and sell 30 points higher. 30 points is 120 ticks. 120 × $0.50 × 2 = $120, before commission. The same trade on 2 NQ is $1,200.

That tenfold jump is why the micro contracts matter. They let you trade the same chart in risk steps small enough to follow a real plan. If your stop on one full-size contract is more than you want to lose, the answer is the micro, not a tighter stop. The position size calculator works out the number of contracts from your risk and stop.

Questions people ask

The smallest price move a contract can make. On NQ, MNQ, ES and MES it's 0.25 points, on crude oil one cent, on gold ten cents. Every contract has its own tick size and its own dollar value per tick.
