For profitable traders

Profit is a result. Consistency is a process.

Once you are profitable, the P&L stops telling you anything useful. A good month can hide a month of sloppy trading, and by the time the drawdown shows up, three weeks of bad habits are already in. Profitable traders need a number that moves before the money does. That is what the execution score is.

What most journals teach
I am profitable, so my process is fine.
What Actal grades
My process is fine as long as I check it every week. The month I stop checking is the month it slips.

Every profitable trader knows the pattern. A good run, size creeps up, a rule gets bent because things are working, and the giveback lands on a Friday. The P&L was green the whole way down. Grades, rules kept and plan adherence show the slip while it is still cheap. Actal puts them on one screen and scores them every week.

Why profitable traders give it back

The P&L is green. The process is slipping.

01
Size creeps up when it is working

Two contracts become four because the month is up. The setup did not change, the risk did. A grade catches it the same day. The P&L catches it a month later.

02
Rules get bent, not broken

The loss limit becomes a suggestion, the cooldown becomes optional. Bend a rule three times in a week and it stops being a rule. Rules checked on every trade do not bend.

03
Nobody is watching

The coach is gone and the group chat is memes. At this stage accountability is a friend who can see your journal and ask why Thursday was a D.

04
The review gets skipped on green days

Reviews feel like a chore when the money is good. That is exactly when execution slips, and a week without grades is a week you are flying blind.

01
Execution score

A weekly number that drops before the P&L does.

Grades, clean trades, rules kept, days planned and plans traded, weighted into one score with six weeks of history and the biggest drag named in a sentence. When the score falls and the money has not yet, you have a week to fix it.

Rules per account

Live, funded and eval, each with rules that do not bend.

Max loss per day and week, max trades, size, cooldowns, checked against every trade the moment it lands. Stopping at the limit counts as kept. A bent rule is a rule break on the calendar, not a footnote.

Friends and groups

Accountability from people who can see the journal.

Add a friend and you see each other's full journals, trades and reviews included. Make a group and it gets a chat, shared trades and a weekly board ranked on execution, not P&L. Friends who ask about the D beat a coach who is not there.

Plan and skipped trades

The plan you filed, the trades you passed on, the result either way.

Scenarios before the open, closed out after, so plan adherence is a number. Skipped setups logged with a reason: a disciplined skip is good execution, hesitation is a miss with a price on it, and a skip that dodged a loss is the win nobody else records.

The plan

Your first 30 days

Week 1

Import every account. Set the rules you actually trade by, per account where they differ. Grade the last forty trades so the score has a baseline.

Week 2

Add the two or three traders you respect as friends, or make a group. Post your plan in the morning and your review at night. Let them see it.

Week 3

Read the execution score every Friday with the drag sentence. If it fell while the P&L rose, that is the week to act, not the one after.

Week 4

Run the monthly review: best and worst trades ranked by grade first, goals for next month. Then keep the loop going, because consistency is the loop.

Questions from profitable traders

Because the system is only as good as the execution, and execution slips without anyone noticing. The score, the rules and the plan closeout catch the slip early. The stats are there too, but they are the by-product.

Keep the number that actually predicts next month.
