TradeZella review and pricing (2026): what you get on each plan

TradeZella is the best-known trading journal, and most traders I coach have tried it. It's a good product. It's also more expensive than it looks, because the cheapest plan leaves out things most active traders end up needing. Here's what each plan actually costs and includes, and who I think it's worth it for.

The short version

TradeZella is worth it if you'll use what you're paying for: broker sync, backtesting, trade replay and its AI. For most active traders that means Pro at $59 a month, not Essential, because Essential connects one account and has no trade replay. If what you're missing isn't more tools but knowing what to fix, you're paying for a lot you won't open. Actal, which I built, grades every trade on your rules and is free while in beta.

TradeZella is worth it if
  • You want trades to sync from your broker without exporting anything
  • You'll use backtesting and trade replay every week
  • You want an AI to tag trades and review your sessions
  • You're fine paying $44 to $59 a month for Pro
Look at Actal instead if
  • You keep breaking your own rules and want to see what it costs
  • You run several prop firm accounts and don't want to pay $59 a month for Pro
  • You want every trade graded on discipline, separate from P&L
  • You'd rather pay nothing while you figure out what works

The catch on the cheapest plan

Essential looks like the one to start on, and for a single account it's fine. But three things push most active traders up to Pro:

  • One active account. If you trade a prop firm eval and a funded account, or a couple of evals, that's already two. Pro connects up to 50.
  • No trade replay. Replaying your trades bar by bar is one of TradeZella's best features, and it starts on Pro.
  • No Zella Agents. The AI agents are Pro and Ultra only. Essential gets AI credits, not the agents.

So for a futures trader with a couple of accounts, the real price is $59 a month, or $44 paid yearly. That's $531 a year.

What TradeZella does well

  • Broker sync. It connects to over 500 brokers and platforms, so trades arrive without exporting a file.
  • Backtesting in the same app, including automated AI backtests on Pro and Ultra.
  • Unlimited trade replay on Pro and Ultra.
  • Over 300 reports, if you like digging into your own numbers.
  • PropFirm Sync, which tracks prop firm accounts, on every plan.
  • Mentor Mode, so a coach can look at your journal.

It's polished, it's been around, and it's the most complete journal on the market. If you want everything in one place and you'll do the analysis yourself, it's a reasonable choice.

Where it falls short

This is my opinion from coaching, not a feature list. The traders I see on TradeZella rarely lack data. They have 300 reports and still can't tell me what they're doing wrong. More reports are answers to questions you have to know to ask.

  • It shows you what happened, not whether you followed your plan. A winning trade where you broke your rules looks like a good trade.
  • Mistakes are tags you report on. Working out which one to fix first is still on you.
  • It's expensive for someone who isn't profitable yet, and there's no free plan to start on.

Where Actal is different

I built Actal because my students had TradeZella and still couldn't tell me what to work on. It's not trying to have more reports. Every trade gets checked against your own rules and graded A to F on how well you followed your plan, separately from the P&L. Each mistake keeps a running dollar cost, the most expensive one becomes your focus for the week, and you plan the day before the open.

It's free while in beta with no trade limit, so a few evals and a funded account cost nothing. It imports from thirteen platforms or any CSV. What it doesn't have yet: live broker sync, replay, backtesting or an AI chat.
