Day types: what they are, whole day or per market, pictures and examples
A day type is your own label for what kind of day it was: Trend, Range, Chop, Reversal, News, or anything you name. You set it once, at the top of any trade review or in the calendar, and it goes on every trade of that day. You can split a day per market when NQ and ES behaved differently. Each type holds a description, pictures and pinned example days, and gets its own stats.
What to do
- 1
Open any trade review. The strip at the top says "Day type for" and the date. Click a type. The line under it says what will happen, for example "What you pick goes on all 4 trades on Fri 9 Oct, not just this one."
- 2
A toast confirms it, with Undo. The type is saved at once, not with the review.
- 3
For a day with no trades, open the Calendar, click the day and set it in the Day type panel.
- 4
To split a day, click "Different on NQ/MNQ? Set it separately" on the strip, or "Set per market" in the calendar, and pick a type for that market only. "Follow the day" puts it back.
- 5
Settings > Day types: rename a type, change its colour, write "What it looks like" and "How I trade it", add up to 12 pictures with captions, and see its example days.
Whole day or per market
By default one type covers the whole trading day and every trade in it. The per-market option appears only when the day has two or more markets traded, or already has a split. Micro and mini are one market, so NQ and MNQ share a label, shown as NQ/MNQ. A market's own type beats the day's. In the Trades table a split shows as a chip titled, for example, "Chop (NQ/MNQ only)". A day with a split counts once under each of its types in the stats.
Your set of types
- Five starters are put in the first time you need them: Trend (green), Range (blue), Chop (orange), Reversal (violet), News (red). Rename them, change them or archive them.
- A type has a name of up to 40 characters, one of nine colours, "What it looks like" and "How I trade it" (2000 characters each).
- Pictures: up to 12 per type, 8 MB each, PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF, each with a caption such as "NQ 12 Sep, never lost VWAP". Pictures belong to the type, not to a day.
- Example days: press "Pin as a Trend example" on the strip or in the calendar. Settings lists them with the date, trades and net, and "Unpin". A pinned day whose type changed later is marked "No longer this type".
- Types are archived, never deleted, so old days keep their label. Archived types show as "Archived day type" where they are still used.
Picking the right one
Hover a type in the picker, or long-press on a phone, to see its description and first picture. "Compare types" opens every active type side by side with "What it looks like", "How I trade it" and up to three pictures, with a "Use" button on each.
Stats by day type
- The Day types page lists every type with Days, Trades, Win rate and Net P&L, under the account you have selected.
- Open a type for Days, Trades, Trades per day, Win rate, Net P&L and Avg R, its pictures and example days, and a list of its days linking into the calendar.
- Stats has a "By day type" card and a day type filter, including "No day type".
- The Trades page has a Day type column and a "Day type: all" filter.
- These numbers come from all trades of those days, not only reviewed ones, so the pages agree with each other.
Which day a trade belongs to
A trade's day is the day it closed, in your trading day. A trade opened before the CME session break and closed after it belongs to the later day.
