The trading day setting: which day a trade counts on
By default a trade counts on the calendar day it closed, in your timezone. If you trade the US session from Europe, Asia or Australia, a trade that closes after your midnight lands on the next day. Settings > Profile > Trading day lets your days follow New York, or the CME session that starts at 18:00 New York, so one session is one day.
What to do
- 1
Open Settings and click the Profile tab.
- 2
Under Trading day the line "Currently" shows what you have now.
- 3
Pick one: "Midnight, my time", "New York day", "CME futures session" or "Custom" with your own zone and start time.
- 4
Read the line "By this setting today is" to check the date it gives you right now.
- 5
Click Save. Every screen that groups trades by day updates at once; nothing is re-imported.
The options
| Option | What it does | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Midnight, my time | A trade counts on the calendar day it closed, in your timezone. The default. | Most traders. Nothing changes unless you pick something else. |
| New York day | Midnight New York. | Following the US session from Europe, Asia or Australia, when your evening is the US afternoon. |
| CME futures session | 18:00 to 17:00 New York, counted as the day the session ends on. Sunday evening's open is Monday. | Futures traders and prop firm accounts, since that is how CME and the firms count a day. |
| Custom | Your own zone and start time, as HH:MM. | Any other session, for example a European index open. |
A day whose start is after midnight is named after the date it ends on. With the CME session, a trade closed at 19:30 on Monday New York counts on Tuesday. 17:59:59 is still the old day and exactly 18:00:00 opens the next one. Daylight saving changes are handled: the day still starts at 18:00 on the New York clock.
What follows the trading day
- The calendar and the dashboard month, including today's date.
- Plan & Review: which day is today, and the day scorecard.
- Stats: the ranges, a custom From and To, the year to date, trading days, by weekday and by day type.
- Day types: the day a trade belongs to and the day strip on the trade page.
- Risk rules: daily limits, max trades per day, consecutive losses and the "from today" start of a new rule.
- Insights and the weekly focus: the week starts on the trading day's Monday.
- Groups: the weekly board scores each member by their own trading day.
- The Trades table: the From and To filter is in trading days. When a trade counts on a different date than its clock says, a grey date such as "(Tue 13 Oct)" follows the timestamp.
- Skipped trades: the HH:MM you type lands inside the trading day, so on a CME day 20:30 is the evening the session opened.
Trade times still show on the clock in your display timezone. Economic calendar events, the dates a friend sees on your shared journal, and the dates in notifications stay on calendar dates.
Where the setting is mentioned
When the setting is not the default, the dashboard subtitle ends with "trading day:" and its description, and the Stats hour chart notes "Hours in your timezone; days follow your trading day". The descriptions are "Midnight, your time", "New York day", "CME futures session (18:00 New York)" or your custom start and zone.
