TradesViz review (2026): what it does well, where it falls short

TradesViz is the journal with the most of everything: hundreds of import formats, hundreds of stats, seven AI tools, simulators and a free plan for stocks. That's its strength and its catch. Here's what it does well, where traders struggle with it, and who I think it's right for.

The short version

TradesViz is the best value of the big journals: free for stocks, and $14.99 to $29.99 a month for everything else, with more stats, charts and tools than you'll ever open. It suits traders who like digging through their own data. If what you're missing isn't more numbers but a clear answer to what to fix, it can be a lot to get through, and the plan, checklist and mistake analysis are Platinum only.

TradesViz is worth it if
  • You trade stocks and want a strong free plan
  • You like building your own reports and charts
  • You'll use the simulator, replay or backtesting
  • You want AI tools that read your trades
Look at Actal instead if
  • You trade futures or forex and want free with no limits
  • You want a short list of what to fix, not 600 stats
  • You want every trade graded A to F on your plan
  • You want your daily plan and its scenarios in the same app

Everything on this page is from TradesViz's own site, checked on 12 October 2026, unless I say it's from another reviewer. I haven't run my own trades through it for this review.

What TradesViz does well

  • The free plan. 3,000 executions a month for stocks, auto-sync included, no card and no expiry. For a stock trader it's hard to beat.
  • Getting trades in. 250+ import formats and 70+ auto-sync connections. Auto-sync runs every 24 hours, and a few platforms (NinjaTrader, MetaTrader 5, Sierra Chart) can sync in real time.
  • Depth. 600+ stats, 100+ charts on Pro, custom dashboards and a grid you can pivot. If you can think of a question about your trades, there's probably a chart for it.
  • AI Coach. It runs a fixed set of checks on your trades, 16 on Pro and 21 on Platinum, and ranks up to eight findings by their dollar impact, like revenge trading or cutting winners early.
  • Trading rules. Rules about how you trade, including cool-offs after losses and caps on re-entries and size increases, with a discipline marker on the calendar. Pro gets 6, Platinum 30.
  • Practice tools on Platinum. Multi-symbol simulators, trade replay, a stop and target what-if simulator and backtesting.
  • Price. Pro at about $180 a year is the cheapest paid plan of the big journals, and the free plan costs nothing.

Where it falls short

  • It's a lot. trading-journals.com calls the learning curve steep and the interface dense, and daytradingz.com says it takes real setup time. More features means more to set up before it tells you anything.
  • The free plan is stocks only, one account. Futures, options and forex traders start paying from day one.
  • Some stats arrive late. Market data for most asset types comes in after the end of the day, so charts and some trade stats aren't ready straight after the session. One of the reviewers above says the same about same-day MFE and MAE.
  • Plans and checklists are Platinum only. If you want to journal against a written plan, that's the $22.49 to $29.99 plan.
  • No refunds. The FAQ says subscriptions aren't refunded, so treat the 7-day trial as your test.

My own view, from coaching: traders with a journal like this rarely lack data. They have hundreds of stats and still can't say what they're doing wrong. The AI Coach's ranked findings help with that, and they're the right idea. But it sits on top of a tool built for exploring, and exploring is exactly what traders who keep repeating a mistake don't need more of.

Who it's for

  • Stock traders who want free: the Basic plan.
  • Traders who enjoy their own analysis and want every chart and stat: Pro.
  • Traders who'll practise in a simulator or backtest every week: Platinum.
  • Not a great fit: someone who wants one clear thing to fix each week without building it themselves, or a futures trader who wants to pay nothing.

Where Actal is different

I built Actal for the opposite problem: traders who have plenty of stats and still repeat the same mistake. It's deliberately smaller. Every trade is checked against your own rules and graded A to F on how well you followed your plan, separately from the P&L. Each mistake keeps a running dollar cost and the most expensive one becomes your focus for the week. Your premarket plan, with A, B and C scenarios for each market, gets closed out after the session.

It's free while in beta, for futures, forex and stocks, with no account limit. What it doesn't have: broker auto-sync, a simulator, backtesting, AI tools or a native phone app. You upload a file from your platform after the session, and it works in the phone's browser.

Questions people ask

Yes, especially for the price. It has a strong free plan for stocks, a lot of import options, hundreds of stats, AI tools and simulators. The trade-off is a steep learning curve and a lot to set up.

Drop in one export. In a minute Actal grades the trades it can, prices the mistakes you tagged, and tells you the first thing to fix. Free during beta, no card.
