Importing from Exness, MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5
Save the account history as an HTML report from the terminal and drop that file in as it is. Exness, FTMO and every other MetaTrader broker produce the same report. Each closed trade comes in with the profit, swap and commission MetaTrader reports. The Excel version of the MT5 report is not read.
What to do
- 1
In MetaTrader open the history: MT4 has the Account History tab in the Terminal window, MT5 has the History tab in the Toolbox window. Ctrl+T opens both.
- 2
Right-click inside it and choose the period you want.
- 3
Save it as a report: MT4 Save as Report (or Save as Detailed Report), MT5 Report saved as HTML. Not Open XML.
- 4
In Actal click Import trades, pick the account, and drop the .htm or .html file. Nothing needs converting.
- 5
On the preview check "File timestamps are in". MetaTrader writes server time with no zone, so set it to your broker's server zone if it differs from yours.
- 6
Click Import N trades.
MetaTrader 4, step by step
- In the Terminal window (Ctrl+T) open the Account History tab.
- Right-click inside it, choose the period: All History, Last 3 Months, or Custom period.
- Right-click again and choose Save as Report, or Save as Detailed Report. Both have the Closed Transactions table Actal reads. MT4 writes an .htm file; drop that file in as it is.
MetaTrader 5, step by step
- In the Toolbox window (Ctrl+T) open the History tab and pick the period at the bottom, or right-click > Custom period.
- Switch the view to Positions (right-click > Positions) so each closed position is one line.
- Right-click inside the History tab and choose Report, then save it as HTML. Open XML is the Excel version and is not read. Drop the saved .html file in as it is. MT5 saves it as UTF-16, which is fine.
- An older report with no Positions table is rebuilt from its Deals table, one trade per in and out, and the preview says "rebuilt from N deals".
Exness
Exness has no export of its own in Actal. Use the MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 terminal your Exness account runs on and follow the steps above. Exness symbols with a suffix, such as EURUSDm or XAUUSDm, are read as EURUSD and XAUUSD. The same goes for suffixes after a dot, hash or underscore, such as GBPUSD_i or XAUUSD#.
What comes in
- Each closed buy or sell (MT4) or closed position (MT5) is one trade. Size is the lots column, as a number.
- P&L is MetaTrader's profit plus swap. Commission and taxes (MT4) or commission and fee (MT5) are the trade's cost. A trade with a swap gets a note: "swap X included in P&L".
- Nothing is recomputed from pips or lot sizes. The money is taken as the broker states it.
- Cancelled or deleted pending orders are skipped. Deposits, withdrawals and credit rows are skipped. Each gets a count in the parser notes.
- Trades still open when you saved the report are skipped with a note. They import once they close and you save a new report; the import skips the trades it already has.
- Amounts in a non-USD account are stored in the account currency but shown with a $ sign for now. The preview says "Account currency is EUR. Amounts are stored as EUR, the journal shows them with a $ sign for now".
- Symbols that Actal does not know never block a MetaTrader import, because the P&L comes from the report.
Server time
MetaTrader writes times like 2024.02.28 16:38:33 in your broker's server time, with no zone in the file. Actal reads them in your profile timezone unless you change "File timestamps are in" on the preview. Many brokers run on GMT+2 or GMT+3, so set that and click "Apply and re-check", or leave it and every trade shifts by the same amount. Trades are then shown in your own timezone.
