TradeTally alternatives in 2026: free and paid

TradeTally is a good free journal: no trade limit, open source, and you can run it on your own server. People look elsewhere when they hit what the free plan leaves out, or when their platform isn't on its import list. Here's what it gives you for free and what it doesn't, then the alternatives, free first.

The short version

Stay with TradeTally if you trade US stocks or options with a broker it syncs, or you want to host your journal yourself. If you trade futures through NinjaTrader, Rithmic or TopstepX, or prop firm evaluations, try Actal while it's free in beta. I built it, so keep that in mind. If you want everything and don't mind paying, TradeZella or TraderSync.

Stay on TradeTally if
  • You trade US stocks or options with a broker it syncs
  • You want to run your journal on your own server
  • You want an iPhone app
  • The free plan's features are enough for you
Try Actal if
  • You trade futures through NinjaTrader, Rithmic, TopstepX or Tradovate
  • You want every trade graded on how well you followed your plan, for free
  • You want each mistake priced in dollars and one thing to fix a week
  • You trade prop firm evaluations, or forex on MetaTrader

From TradeTally's pricing page and homepage on 2 November 2026. The 14-day Pro trial needs no card, and the homepage says it starts after your first 20 real trades.

The self-hosted version is a different deal. TradeTally's code is on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 licence, and its homepage says the open source version includes everything at no cost. You need a server and the time to keep it running.

Why people look for a TradeTally alternative

  • The parts that help you trade better, grading trades against your own rules and catching revenge trading, are Pro features.
  • On the free plan you upload CSV files of up to 100 trades each, so a busy day trader's month means several files.
  • The platforms it names are mostly US stock brokers, plus Tradovate and TradingView. NinjaTrader, Rithmic, TopstepX and MetaTrader aren't on the list on its homepage, so those go through the column mapper.
  • Self-hosting is free, but it's your server to run and update.

1. Actal

Free with everything while in beta, and built around the part TradeTally keeps in Pro. Every trade is checked against your own rules and graded A to F on how well you followed your plan, each mistake keeps a running dollar cost, and the most expensive one becomes your focus for the week. It imports files from NinjaTrader, Tradovate, Rithmic, TopstepX, Sierra Chart, Quantower, ATAS, MotiveWave, TradingView, MetaTrader 4 and 5, Interactive Brokers, thinkorswim and more; the platform guides show the export for each.

What it doesn't have: broker sync, replay, backtesting, AI or a phone app. You upload a file after the session, and it works in your phone's browser. I built it, so weigh that.

2. TradesViz

The best free option for stock traders. The Basic plan has 3,000 executions a month and one account, with auto-sync, no card and no expiry. Futures, options, forex and crypto need Pro ($19.99 a month, $14.99 yearly) or Platinum ($29.99, $22.49 yearly). More in TradesViz pricing.

3. Tradervue

The old standard. Its help center still lists a free tier of 30 trades a month, though the pricing page no longer shows it. Silver is $29.95 a month and Gold $49.95, and commissions and risk tracking are only in Gold. More in Tradervue pricing.

4. TradeZella

The most complete, with replay, backtesting and AI built in, and the most expensive: $35, $59 or $99 a month, or $26, $44 and $74 paid yearly. No free plan, no trial and no refunds; more in TradeZella free trial and discount codes.

5. TraderSync

Replay, an AI assistant and phone apps, from $29.95 a month with a 7-day trial and no free plan. It doesn't give refunds. More in TraderSync pricing.

6. Edgewonk

$197 a year with everything included, and strong on trading psychology. No free plan, but a 14-day money-back guarantee. More in Edgewonk pricing.

7. A spreadsheet

Free, yours, and nobody can change the plan on you, but you type in every trade. My Google Sheets template copies into your Drive in one click and has the grade, mistake and plan columns most sheets are missing.

How to switch without losing your history

  • Export your trades from your trading platform, not from TradeTally. The platform's file has every fill.
  • TradeTally says you can export your data any time, so take a copy of your notes before you go.
  • Import the same month into your top two choices and check the trade count and P&L match your platform.

Who wrote this

I'm Joakim. I coach traders one-on-one at Jusell Trading Academy, and my students turn up using most of these. Every price and limit here is from the companies' own sites, TradeTally's on 2 November 2026. Actal is mine and it's first on the list, so I've written down what it's missing too.

Questions people ask
