A trading journal for TradingView. Paper trading and connected brokers, one export each.
TradingView is where most people chart, and for a lot of futures traders it is also where they click. Paper trading, or a broker connected in the Trading panel: Tradovate, AMP, Ironbeam, Optimus and the rest. The panel keeps a history. It does not grade a trade, price a mistake or check anything against a plan. Actal takes one export and does that.
Does TradingView have a trading journal?
No. TradingView has a Trading panel with an Account History tab for closed positions and a History tab for orders, plus paper trading and bar replay. That is a record, not a journal. There is no grade, no mistake tag, no rules, no plan and nothing that adds up what a habit has cost you. The good news is that the panel exports both tabs as CSV in two clicks, and paper trades export the same way as real ones, so you can start journaling before you fund an account.
Where TradingView traders get stuck, and what a week with Actal looks like.
I paper trade for months and cannot say if I am getting better, only whether the number went up.
Paper trades are graded like real ones, in their own account, with the same rules you plan to trade live with. You know you are ready when the grades say so, not the balance.
The Trading panel keeps a history. It does not keep a reason. A week later I cannot remember why I took half of them.
Every trade has a grade, a setup, a mistake tag if there was one, and the chart marked up in the review. The reason is written the same day, in about a minute.
My rule is no trades after 11:30. TradingView lets me click at 14:05 and nothing says a word.
Rules are checked on every import. The 14:05 trade is a rule break in red on the day it happened, and the count of them is on the dashboard all week.
Broker connected, paper account, bar replay. All in the same panel, all blurred together.
Each one is its own account in Actal. Replay stays replay, paper stays paper, and one dashboard shows whether the habits carry over to real money.
I mark the plan on the chart before the open and by lunch I am trading something else entirely.
Scenarios written before the open, a closeout after. In a month you know how often you traded against your own plan, and the P&L splits into in-plan and off-plan.
Stats journals gave me a P&L calendar for my TradingView trades. I still did not know what to change on Monday.
One weekly focus, from the most expensive mistake first, with live progress. Fix it, then the next one.
The charts, the ideas and the panel stay in TradingView. Actal takes one export from the panel and grades what happened after you clicked.
How to get the file out of TradingView.
Written from TradingView's own documentation and checked against real files where we have them. The same guide shows on the import page and next to any error.
Account History exports closed positions with the realized P&L TradingView computed. Actal takes those as stated. History (Filled) exports the filled orders as fills, and Actal rebuilds the round trips from them. Either works; Account History is simpler, History gives you every fill.
The paper trading account exports the same file as a broker account. Put it in its own account in Actal, set the same rules, and grade paper trades like real ones. That is the whole point of paper trading.
TradingView writes times in the timezone your chart is set to, with no zone in the file. Set your profile timezone in Actal to match the chart and the times line up. The preview shows the first trades so you can check.
Futures contracts get R, points and the built-in point values. Stocks, forex and crypto rows from Account History import with the P&L TradingView states, but R and points stay empty until you set the symbol up.
- 1Open the Trading panel at the bottom of a chart and connect the broker or paper account.
- 2Click the account (broker) dropdown at the left of the panel and choose Export data (also labelled Download data).
- 3In the dialog pick the tab to export: Account History for closed positions with realized P&L, or History (Filled) for the filled orders. Each tab exports on its own. Press Export.
- Balance History rows already carry the realized P&L, so the trade is taken as stated by TradingView.
- Order History exports become fills and are reconstructed into round trips; only filled orders count.
- Times are exported in the chart's timezone; set your profile timezone to match.
If your broker is Tradovate, AMP on Rithmic, or Ironbeam, the broker's own report also works and sometimes carries commissions TradingView's file does not. The Tradovate and Rithmic guides are on the supported brokers page. Do not import both files for the same day, or if you do, the duplicates are skipped by time and price.
Replay trades on paper land in the same Account History as live paper trades. Export them, put them in a replay account in Actal, and grade them. If you want them separate, export before and after the replay and keep the ranges apart.
The mobile app has no export. Open TradingView in a browser or the desktop app, open the Trading panel, and export from there. The history is the same account.
Every trade checked against your rules, then graded.
Daily loss limit, max trades, size and cooldowns are checked the moment the file lands. Then each trade gets a grade on execution with your own setup criteria as the checklist, a mistake tag if there was one, and the chart marked up so the lesson sticks.
Five things that happen with TradingView files, and the fix.
You exported the Positions or Orders tab with open items, or a watchlist. Export Account History for closed positions or History for filled orders. Each tab exports on its own; pick one in the dialog.
The panel exports the account you are connected to, and Account History only has closed positions. Open positions show up after they close. If you switched between paper and a broker, export each account.
TradingView's Account History P&L is what the broker reported to it, usually before commission. If your broker charges commission, set a per-contract default on the preview or import the broker's own file instead.
The file uses the chart timezone. Set your profile timezone in Actal to the same one, or switch the chart to your local zone before exporting.
Those are symbols Actal does not know yet, often stocks or crypto. The P&L is right because TradingView stated it. Set the symbol's point value once in settings and R fills in.
Sim, eval, funded and live, side by side.
Each TradingView account becomes an account in Actal with its own rules where they differ, and one dashboard across all of them. A habit that shows up on every account is easy to see.
