Supported brokers/Quantower trading journal

A trading journal for Quantower. Export the Trades panel, grade what is in it.

Quantower has more than forty panels, and a few of them are about your results: Account Performance, Reports and the Trades panel. They tell you what happened. None of them grade a trade, tag a mistake or check the trade against the plan you wrote before the open. Actal takes one export from the Trades panel and does that part.

Does Quantower have a trading journal?

Not a journal, but it has results panels. Account Performance collects your trades and statistics, Reports pulls statements from your broker where the connection supports it, and the Trades panel lists every execution with fee and P&L. There is no grade, no mistake tag with a cost, no rule check and no plan. The Trades panel exports to CSV from its menu, and that file is what Actal reads.

What changes

Where Quantower traders get stuck, and what a week with Actal looks like.

Today

Account Performance shows my equity curve going sideways. It does not say why.

With Actal

Every trade gets a grade and a mistake tag if there was one. The sideways month turns into three habits with a dollar cost each, and the biggest one is your focus this week.

Today

One Quantower workspace, a Rithmic account, a CQG account and a crypto account. Everything in one Trades panel.

With Actal

Futures rows import into the account you choose. Crypto and stock rows are skipped with a note. Each futures account sits side by side with its own rules.

Today

My rule is no trades in the first five minutes. Quantower fills the 09:31 order like any other.

With Actal

Rules are checked on every import, including a trading window. The 09:31 trade is a rule break on the day it happened, with what it cost.

Today

I scalp, I take thirty trades, and by the end of the day I cannot remember which ones were planned.

With Actal

A, B and C scenarios before the open, a closeout after, and a grade per trade with the keyboard. Thirty trades take about ten minutes, and the off-plan ones stand out.

Today

Fees are in the panel but every tool I try either ignores them or counts them twice.

With Actal

The Fee column is used as the commission on each execution, once. Gross and net are both shown.

Today

I have all the stats I could want. I need someone or something to tell me what to fix.

With Actal

One weekly focus, picked from the most expensive mistake first, with progress on the dashboard every morning. And friends who can see your journal and ask about Thursday.

Charts, DOM, footprint and Account Performance stay in Quantower. Actal needs one export from the Trades panel.

Export in a minute

How to get the file out of Quantower.

Written from Quantower's own documentation and checked against real files where we have them. The same guide shows on the import page and next to any error.

Every execution with its fee

The Trades panel lists each execution with side, quantity, price, gross P&L, fee and net P&L. Actal rebuilds round trips from the executions and uses Fee as the commission, so net P&L matches.

Futures only, the rest skipped

Rows whose Symbol type is not Futures, like Crypto, Stock or Forex, are skipped with a note on the preview. They are not imported wrong, they are left out.

Times follow your Windows locale

Date/Time is written in your system format and usually carries an offset, for example 10/25/2023 3:55:47 PM -05:00. With an offset nothing is guessed. Without one, the time is read in your profile timezone.

Sells can be negative

Quantower writes sells with a negative quantity. That is expected and handled. Side and quantity still come out right.

Trades panel export
  1. 1Open the Trades panel (Portfolio section) and set the date range.
  2. 2Open the panel's menu (right-click the panel tab) and choose Export data, the same command every Quantower table panel has.
  3. 3Tick all columns, choose comma separated, and click Export file.
Columns to expect: Account, Date/Time, Symbol, Symbol type, Side, Quantity, Price, Gross P/L, Fee, Net P/L, Trade ID, Order ID.
  • Fee is used as the commission for each execution; sells carry a negative Quantity, which is fine.
  • Rows whose Symbol type is not Futures (Crypto, Stock, Forex) are skipped with a note; only futures are journaled today.
  • Date/Time follows your Windows locale and usually carries an offset (10/25/2023 3:55:47 PM -05:00); without one it is read in your profile timezone.
  • The panel layout is verified against a real export; that sample held only crypto trades, so futures rows follow the same columns.
Other ways to get the file
Reports panel

Some connections offer broker statements in the Reports panel. Those layouts differ per broker. The Trades panel export is the same everywhere, so use that one.

Rithmic or CQG behind Quantower

If your futures account is on Rithmic, R | Trader Order History also imports, one day per file. The Quantower Trades panel is quicker for a longer range. Pick one source per account.

Anything else

If a Quantower build writes different columns, the column mapper takes the file in one pass and remembers the mapping for next time.

After the import

Every trade checked against your rules, then graded.

Daily loss limit, max trades, size and cooldowns are checked the moment the file lands. Then each trade gets a grade on execution with your own setup criteria as the checklist, a mistake tag if there was one, and the chart marked up so the lesson sticks.

When the import goes wrong

Five things that happen with Quantower files, and the fix.

Nothing imported

The file had no futures rows. Check Symbol type in the export. Crypto, stock and forex rows are skipped on purpose.

The file is rejected

You exported a different panel, or not all columns. Open the Trades panel, right-click the panel tab, Export data, tick all columns, choose comma separated and export again.

Times are off

Your locale wrote times without an offset. Set your profile timezone to the one Quantower shows and import again, or change the Windows region so the export includes the offset.

Trades from two accounts became one

The export covered several accounts. Filter the Trades panel to one account before exporting, and import each account's file into its own account in Actal.

Commas and decimals are mixed up

A non-English locale can write comma decimals. Actal handles those. If a file still fails, send it to hello@actal.io and it is usually fixed within the week.
