Can you connect TopstepX to TradeZella? Yes, two ways
Yes, you can. TradeZella connects to TopstepX in two ways: Auto Sync, or a CSV you export from TopstepX and upload. The catch is that Auto Sync needs a separate API subscription from Topstep, so it costs more than the TradeZella price on its own. Here are both ways step by step, what each one really costs per month, and how to journal the same trades for free.
The short version
TradeZella supports TopstepX by Auto Sync or by file upload, on every plan. Auto Sync needs TopstepX API access, which Topstep bills separately: $29 a month, or $14.50 for Topstep traders with Topstep's code. On top of that you need a TradeZella plan, $35 a month at the lowest, and that plan connects one active account. If you trade a Combine and a funded account at the same time, you need Pro at $59. If what you want is a journal for your TopstepX trades, the same Trades export imports into Actal for free.
- You want trades to show up without exporting anything
- You already pay for TopstepX API access for a bot or another tool
- You'll use TradeZella's trade replay and backtesting every week
- Another $35 to $74 a month doesn't matter to you
- You're already paying for Combines and resets and don't want another subscription
- You run more than one Combine or funded account at a time
- You want every trade graded on whether you followed your rules
- A one-minute export after the session is fine
The short answer
TradeZella lists TopstepX as a supported broker with two import methods. You pick one when you add the account.
| Method | What you need | Extra cost | When trades show up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto Sync | Your TopstepX username and an API key from TopstepX API access | $29 a month, or $14.50 with Topstep's code | Automatically |
| File upload | A CSV export from the TopstepX Trades tab | None | When you upload the file |
Option 1: Auto Sync (needs TopstepX API access)
Auto Sync pulls your trades in on its own. To use it, TradeZella needs an API key, and TopstepX only gives you one if you subscribe to TopstepX API access. Topstep runs it through ProjectX and bills it separately from your Topstep account.
- Subscribe to TopstepX API access. It's $29 a month, and Topstep traders get 50% off with the code topstep, which makes it $14.50 a month. Topstep says the charge shows up as Sim2Funded Solutions on your bank statement.
- Create your API key in the ProjectX dashboard.
- In TradeZella, go to Add Trade and click Add New Account.
- Choose TopstepX as the broker, select Auto Sync, and click Continue.
- Enter your TopstepX username and the API key, then click Connect.
One thing to know before you do it: Topstep's help center says that if you connect a third-party app to the API, it's at your own risk, and that Topstep and ProjectX don't endorse any outside platform that offers an API integration. Your trades are still under Topstep's rules whichever tool you use.
Option 2: Upload the Trades export (no API needed)
This is the free way in, and it's the same file every journal reads. It takes about a minute after the session.
- In TopstepX, open the Trades tab at the bottom of the trading page. Not the Orders tab.
- Click Export at the bottom right, pick the date range and export.
- Save the CSV.
- In TradeZella, go to Add Trade. Click Add New Account, or Add Trades on an account you already have.
- Choose TopstepX, select File Upload, pick the file's timezone and upload it.
If the upload fails, it's almost always one of two things. Either the file came from the Orders tab, which TradeZella doesn't expect, or the file is empty. TradeZella's own tip for an empty file is to pick a wider date range, for example starting yesterday and ending two days from now.
What it actually costs per month
TradeZella's plans are $35, $59 and $99 a month, or $26, $44 and $74 a month if you pay for a year up front. All three include auto-sync, upload and manual imports. What changes is how many active accounts you can connect: one on Essential, up to 50 on Pro, unlimited on Ultra.
| Setup | Journal | TopstepX API | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| TradeZella Essential, file upload | $35 | $0 | $35, one active account |
| TradeZella Essential, Auto Sync | $35 | $14.50 | $49.50, one active account |
| TradeZella Pro, Auto Sync | $59 | $14.50 | $73.50, up to 50 accounts |
| Actal, file upload | $0 | $0 | $0, any number of accounts |
The account limit is the part that catches Topstep traders. A Combine and an Express Funded account at the same time is two active accounts, so Essential stops being enough the day you pass. The full breakdown of each plan is in TradeZella pricing.
The free option: import the same file into Actal
If you mainly want a journal for your TopstepX trades, you don't need the API or a subscription. Actal imports the same Trades export, and it's free while it's in beta, with no card.
- In TopstepX, open the Trades tab, click Export at the bottom right and pick the dates.
- Drop the CSV on Actal's import page.
- Check the first trades on the preview and click Import.
What happens to the file:
- The P&L is the number TopstepX computed, so it matches your Topstep balance.
- Timestamps carry a UTC offset, so no timezone setting is needed.
- Fees are taken from the file and never counted twice.
- A position you scaled into or out of comes in as one trade, not three.
- Each Combine or funded account is its own account in Actal, and the dashboard shows them together.
- Your own rules, like max trades or a cooldown after a loss, are checked on every trade, and each trade gets a grade for execution.
What Actal doesn't do yet: auto-sync. You export after the session and drop the file in. Importing the same days twice never doubles a trade, so you can export a whole week at once. The TopstepX trading journal page has the details and the troubleshooting.
Which one to pick
If you already pay for TopstepX API access and you'll use TradeZella's replay and backtesting, Auto Sync is the smoothest setup and worth paying for.
If you're paying for Combines and resets, I'd keep the money for those. The export takes a minute, and what actually gets you through a Combine isn't the sync. It's knowing which habit keeps ending it, and that comes from grading every trade and looking at the cost of each mistake.
Who wrote this
I'm Joakim. I trade index futures full time, I've been paid out on Topstep, and I coach traders one-on-one at Jusell Trading Academy. I built Actal because the journals I used showed P&L and win rate, and none of them told me whether I followed my rules. Actal isn't affiliated with Topstep or TradeZella.
Questions people ask
Drop in one export. In a minute Actal grades the trades it can, prices the mistakes you tagged, and tells you the first thing to fix. Free during beta, no card.

No platform was built for developing traders, so he had his own coaching software built; old students loved it and kept coming back, and Actal is that software turned into a proper journal for what matters.
